Welcome!

JL's photo I studied English Linguistics, English Literature, and Geography at the University of Fribourg in my native Switzerland, where I graduated with a licence ès lettres in 2005. My mémoire, supervised by Prof. Peter Trudgill, was on the influence of the interviewer in Labovian sociolinguistic interviews. My research then continued at the University of Oxford, where I submitted a D.Phil thesis titled 'Modelling variation in Singapore English', written under the supervision of Prof. Suzanne Romaine.

Since October 2009 I have been on a post-doc at the University of Freiburg in Germany, where I am furthering my research into World Englishes and native English in multilingual contexts. My teaching includes World Englishes and sociolinguistic methods. Previously, I was a Lecturer in Sociolinguistics at Bangor University in 2008–2009, where I taught variationist and sociolinguistic lectures at undergraduate level.
