Intermediate examination (Zwischenprüfung)

The examination dates will be communicated at a later date. The session usually spans the last week of term and the first week of holidays (ie 13–24 February 2012).
The exam is largely based on the lecture 'Synchronic Linguistics'. The topics covered in the exam typically include phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, the verb, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and varieties of English.
As far as revision is concerned, your lecture notes from 'Synchronic Linguistics' are important, as are any handouts from this lecture. Kortmann's 2005 English Linguistics: Essentials (Cornelsen) book contains everything that will appear in the exam.
This should be enough, but if you insist on reading more, Kortmann's book will have further readings listed.
A mock exam can be found here. The actual exam we will be having will of course be different, but as far as the overall structure goes, this is it.
